The winners of the first edition of the Straffe Artists Wanted 2010:
First Prize: AdrienK
Second Prize: José Couzy
Third Prize: Nathan Krieg
1. AdrienK: Beer Moon
Adrien is a passionate and self-taught digital artist (Paris). The photographs in all his works were made during his travels (his greatest passion). With these visual images, he aims not simply to immortalise landscapes, people and monuments, but rather the country he is visiting as a whole.
Adrien’s other great passion is information technology. He takes these new techniques to their limits. He transforms his images, adjusts the colours and then brings in new elements from the same place to create a single, integrated work. He uses colours in a way which immediately attracts attention to his compositions. With this particular piece, Adrien hopes to create a sense of amazement and emotion in the viewer.
2. José Couzy: Héritage
José Couzy is a French artist. He has based his work on the theme of tradition, since for him this is the dominant element in the history of the brewery. Six generations of the same family have followed in each other’s footsteps, gradually building up the necessary know-how, quality and tradition which have made the Halve Maan Brewery what it is today.
In keeping with this traditional motif, he has managed to incorporate St. Arnould – the patron saint of brewers – into his work, whilst at the same time emphasising the key dates which have played an important role in the brewery’s impressive past.
3. Nathan Krieg: Assembly
Nathan Krieg began his artistic studies in 2007 and is currently a student in graphic design at the Institute for Graphic Art (IAV) in Orléans.
Nathan focuses interest in his illustration on old and disused objects. He tries to bring these objects together to create powerful images, which have a strong impact on the viewer. Structured and unstructured themes are often to be found in his work: he uses everyday objects which he seeks to expand and develop with corresponding shapes, transforming the totality into real illustrations. For this piece he has used several different techniques (photography, drawings, digital technology).
